Rock installation is the most common way to prevent scouring around maritime structures such as offshore platforms and rigs.
The flexibility of our Subsea Excavators has proven beneficial in several offshore windfarm projects, whether it has involved rock installation or removal of rock armour or rock dump.
The Scanmachine is also ideal for seabed preparation including relocation of boulders or large and heavy volumes of mass. Levelling and compressing the mass will improve the stability of the seabed while offering scour protection. Compared to a WROV, the Scanmachine can work in strong currents. The Scanmachine may also be used to relocate rocks in areas not accessible for a rock dumper.
The operation is highly controlled through the monitoring system, which supports precision work and accurate results, especially when working in close proximity to subsea assets, or if the work task requires levelling/ shape work. For fine-tuning and compressing rock dump/gravel prior to installation of Gravity based structures, the Scanmachine would offer an efficient method statement to ensure the most stable foundation. Tolerances down to +/- 2-3cm have been achieved subsea in bad visibility.
